When can my child start to learn how to swim independently?

From ages 6 months to 1.5 years old we recommend that babies are learning how to be comfortable in the water with a parent or guardian.

At age 2 years old children can start to learn how to swim independently with a instructor.

What if my child cries during the swim lesson?

This is normal behavior often seen in babies and young children who are new to swim lessons or unfamiliar with the water. It’s a natural self-defense that occurs when a child feels uncomfortable, fearful, or hesitant in a new environment.

As children begin to build trust with our instructor and feel more secure, they typically become more comfortable and start making progress in their swim skills.

The key to helping children move past this initial fear of the water and trying something new is consistency. Regular attendance and commitment from parents/guardians are essential in building their confidence and comfort.

What happens if a kid walks out of the pool?

This can happen, and the best response is for the parent to immediately and calmly walk the child back to the pool. This is an important learning moment for the child—to understand that we don’t give up when things feel difficult or unfamiliar.

It’s also an opportunity to reinforce the rules. When children know the expectations and see that adults are consistent, they begin to feel safe and supported. By guiding your child back into the water, you’re sending a clear message: this is a safe environment, and you trust the process.

With consistency and structure, swim lessons become not only fun, but empowering.

Is there Make-Up Lesson?

Agua Flow Mobile does provide make up lessons depending on the instructors availability.

How many lessons does it take for my child or myself to learn how to swim?

Research suggests it can take approximately 20 to 24 hours of instruction for an individual to fully learn to swim independently. However, this varies greatly depending on the participant’s consistency, commitment, and comfort level in the water.

Each student progresses at their own pace, influenced by factors such as learning style, physical strength, and confidence in aquatic environments.

We generally recommend a minimum of 8 to 12 swim lessons to help establish consistency and reinforce the skills taught during sessions. The more practice the better the results.
